Wanderlust…an itchy foot…rambling fever…whatever you want to call it, I’ve got it! No great surprise since my parents love to go places and see things, and I have taken part in their adventures since I was in the womb! I remember as a kid loading up the family station wagon–and later the family van–and heading off for destinations unknown. We traveled thousands and thousands of miles over the course of my childhood, covering the United States from sea to shining sea. My mom had a bucket list before such a thing existed! She would spend weeks, or even months, painstakingly planning our family vacations–often to coincide with schools my dad attended on his job, family reunions, church conventions, and the like. Bear in mind, this was long before the days of Google, Trip Advisor, and travel blogs! She pored over the Rand McNally atlas, pencil in hand, planning out every detail of our itinerary. During those road trips, we visited historical landmarks, theme parks, museums, national parks, beaches, and natural wonders. We experienced first-hand the places and things that most of our friends only read or heard about. In between trips, my dad would haul out the slide projector and we would travel overseas to Italy (where he and my mom lived while he was in the Air Force), Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and the Republic of San Marino–without ever leaving our living room. Though I am now grown up and married, my love affair with travel remains the same. Whether day-tripping right up the road from my home or flying halfway around the world, there is always something new and exciting to see and experience! I can snatch up my camera and have a bag packed in no time flat! “Go” is indeed my middle name!!
